Projection Mapping: Kortrijk City Hall

design

animation

This projection mapping was a team effort to create a piece for the Wondr Festival, showcasing a beautiful and large display on the City Hall of Kortrijk. My study program Devine collaborating with Designregio Kortrijk asked the 3rd year students to create scenes depicting the participating Unesco Design Cities. My team and I utilized After Effects to design an animation that celebrated the city of Detroit: its history, culture and design. With our projection we aimed to highlight Detroit’s creative and unyielding spirit while reflecting its connection to its past, its present and its future. As a team, we worked together to understand the architectural details of the City Hall, ensuring the animations aligned perfectly with the structure. My role, like my teammates, focused on creating vibrant and engaging motion graphics that complemented the building’s facade while contributing to the overall narrative. This project required not only creativity and precision but also strong teamwork, communication and time management as we had only one week to bring all the elements together seamlessly. This was such a unique opportunity to collaborate on combining storytelling, design, and large-scale animation in a very public setting for three weeks. Seeing our work come to life on such a historic building was a rewarding experience.
